Eastern Tour II

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Bogotá

Day 2: Today we shall head down the east slope of the Eastern Cordillera to the type locality of the rarely seen Cundinimarca Antpitta.

Day 3: At dawn we shall visit a local marsh in search of Apolinar’s Marsh-wren and Bogotá before visiting a private reserve overlooking the city to look for Rufous-browed Conebill, Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Matorral Tapaculo and Silvery-throated Spinetail.

Day 4-5: This morning we shall take an early morning flight to Popayan and then drive to ProAves Mirabilis Reserve. Here we will spend our time looking for the enimatic Colourful Puffleg, the newly described Munchique Wood-wren, Western Antvireo and Tanager-finch amongst the great diversity of species found in this region.

Day 6: After a final morning birding here we shall head back to Popayan for the night.

Day 7: This morning we shall travel through Purace National Park in search of Crescent-faced Antpitta and Masked Mountain-tanager before arriving at San Agustin Archaeological Park.

Day 8: We shall spend the morning within the Archaeological Park in search of White-rimmed Brush-finch before heading north to Neiva for an over night stay.

Day 9: Heading out of Neiva we shall spend some time in the Tatacoa Desert with our main aim of seeing the local and very nomadic Apical Flycatcher. We shall drive to Ibague for a two night stay.

Day 10 We shall spend the day in fragmented forest above Ibague in search of two key endemics, Tolima Dove and Yellow-headed Brush-finch.

Day 11-13: After a final morning birding around Ibague, we shall continue our journey north through the Magdalena Valley to the ProAves reserve of El Paujil. Here we shall look for the very rare Blue-billed Currasow after which the reserve gets its name, Sooty Ant-tanager, Antioquia Bristle-tyrant, Saffron-headed Parrot, Beautiful Woodpecker, Citron-throated Toucan and Yellow-browed Shrike-vireo.

Day 14-16: Today we shall head towards our final destination on this tour, the ProAves Cerulean Warbler Reserve, for a three night stay. Here we shall look for Black Inca, Turquoise Dacnis-tanager, White-mantled Barbet, Gorgeted Wood-quail, Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird, Recurve-billed Bushbird and Parkers' Antbird.

Day 17: After a final morning birding at the reserve we shall drive to Bucaramanga for a flight to Bogota for connecting international flights.
